Clinical summary

Clinical signs
For obese patients: excessive adipose tissue, difficulty palpating ribs, loss of waistline, pendulous abdomen. For cachectic patients: prominent skeletal structures, muscle atrophy, loss of subcutaneous fat.
Diagnostic approach
Visual inspection and systematic palpation of anatomical landmarks including the ribs, lumbar vertebrae, pelvic prominences, and abdominal tuck.
